THE STORY
Ja’Kiem Crayon is a young entrepreneur born and raised in one of the oldest cities in the USA, Albany, NY. He has overcome many challenges and obstacles in his life. During grade school, Crayon excelled in his academics and stood out especially in art. In 1998 Crayon attended Franklin Magnet Academy in Syracuse, NY. Practically, every week during that academic year, he was highlighted as artist of the week. Winning awards and creating back drops for the school plays, he found his niche at and early age. During that time, he painted an underwater wildlife scene on a glass wall for the B.O.S.T Museum. Throughout Middle school he painted murals around the school and his artistry really started to take flight, as he collected awards and gained recognition as an artist. Aside from art , he participated in a pleather of extra curricular activities like journalism club, computer club, and swimming practice. By High school he was producing fashion shows, on the swim team, and studying art history. Crayon worked part-time as a cashier/birthday coordinator for McDonald’s and a face painter for Party City during his high school years.
In 2008 Crayon studied fashion design at the Art Institute of New York City. He styled for designers like Rhandi Rham, Patricia Nash, Old Navy, Van’s, The Gap, Shaman Furs, and Brooklyn Fashion Week. In 2016 Crayon took first place at King Plaza Mall’s Earth Day Fashion Challenge. He’s worked with and coordinated events for Cea-lo restaurants, Magnolia Bakery, Ample Hills, No Fear Brand, Vintage Brothel and Tisane Pharmacy.
Crayon has produced over 10 independent fashion shows providing opportunities for over 150 models, designers, photographers, artist and vendors.
